Defrost freezer
Frost build-up reduces freezer efficiency. If there is not an automatic
defrost system, turn the thermostat to 'Off' or 'Defrost'. Remove
all food from freezer compartment, wrap in newspaper or blankets
and store in a cool place or an icebox. Then unplug fridge and carefully
scrape away frost and ice from inside freezer using plastic tool.
When defrosting is complete, clean compartment with baking soda
solution, rinse and allow to dry before turning unit back on.
Clean interior of fridge
Remove all food, racks and drawers.
Remove glass and plastic shelves and allow them
to reach room temperature before washing them in warm detergent
solution. Rinse and wipe dry. Wash the fridge compartment with a
baking soda solution. Use a coat-hanger wire to carefully remove
food or mould from the drain hole at the back of the compartment.
Clean door gasket
Dirt can ruin the door seal, allowing cool air to escape. Clean
the rubber door seal of both the fridge and freezer compartments
with detergent solution. Make sure all the dirt is removed from
between the grooves. Rinse and wipe dry.
Vacuum around back of fridge-freezer Be careful
near the condenser coils. Gently vacuum around the condenser coils
and motor to remove any accumulated dust and dirt.
Moving a fridge or freezer
Open the door and place one hand inside to lift the front. If possible,
place your other hand on a worktop to give you support. Wiggle the
appliance gently from side to side as you pull it forwards. Always
allow a fridge-freezer to settle for a couple of hours with the
power switched off before and after moving it.
